West Lake Segment 4 is an active contract with Broward County that involves the coastal restoration of 2 miles of wetland habitat directly adjacent to Florida’s Intracoastal Waterway. CHC will create 12 acres of seagrass habitat and protect over 2 miles of shoreline within West Lake Park. The goal for this mitigation project is to enhance the park’s natural ecosystem by establishing a unified mitigation area with the ideal wetland habitat for native flora and fauna. This is an intensive project that has a wide range of scope. Significant work to be done includes installing 2 miles of riprap cribbing along the shoreline, installing 2,000 timber piles, planting seagrass and other wetland vegetation, excavating 125,000 CY, and material transport by barge or truck. Additionally, the sensitive work environment in which CHC will operate requires an elevated level of care to preserve the existing ecosystem.
