Emergency Repairs to Sanibel Causeway in Lee County, Florida. CHC’s work involved the emergency response and mobilization of barges, cranes, push boats, and trestle system to the causeway immediately following its damage during Hurricane Ian. This work entailed shoring of bridge approaches with sheet pile and bridge resiliency repairs to facilitate reopening the causeway. In addition, 125,000 SF of permanent sheet pile was installed around the bridge abutments.
CHC’s ongoing efforts at the causeway are to create an armor stone revetment system consisting of 200,000 tons of stone and over 200,000 SF of sheet pile. The process has involved multiple specialized barge setups to reinforce critical areas of the causeway. This vital marine infrastructure work will reinforce the bridge abutments that were damaged during Hurricane Ian and protect against future storm events.
