This project involves the reconstruction and coastal resiliency improvement of two heavily damaged sections of North Casey Key Road in Sarasota County, Florida. Following severe coastal erosion and storm damage, the roadway experienced significant undermining and failure of the existing shoreline protection system. The work includes installation of a new permanent seawall and shoreline protection system—replacing the deteriorated revetment with granite rip-rap, steel sheet piling, and temporary bulkhead measures to stabilize the coastline. Once the shoreline is secured, the road will be rebuilt with a reinforced subgrade, new road base, and improved drainage to prevent future voiding beneath the pavement. The project will be delivered in phases, beginning with temporary stabilization and seawall construction, followed by permanent roadway reconstruction and final site restoration. Construction staging, traffic control and temporary access measures will ensure residents maintain safe access throughout the project. Funded through a combination of FEMA, state, and county contributions, this multi-year effort focuses on long-term durability and coastal resilience, restoring the roadway while protecting the shoreline from future storm impacts.
