Big Fishweir Creek, Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration

CHC was tasked with dredging portions of Big Fishweir Creek and Little Fishweir Creek, located on the west side of the St. Johns River, approximately 4 miles south of downtown Jacksonville, Florida. The project involved the removal and transportation of dredged material to the Bartram Island Disposal Area, roughly 14 miles upstream from the site. Both mechanical and hydraulic dredging methods were used to remove 25,000 CY of material. Other key aspects of the work included turbidity monitoring, endangered species monitoring, vibration control, and channel debris removal. This comprehensive project, requiring precise environmental management and coordination, underscores CHC’s commitment to improving and preserving Florida’s waterways.
